The adult Intensive Care department at DSFH safe and effective Consultant-based- intensive care services to all adult patients ( > 13 years old). These services are provided by highly trained and qualified intensivists, nurses, respiratory therapists, physical medicine therapists and dieticians. Those services are also supported by clinical pharmacists, Infection control practitioners and social workers. The Services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Patients are managed by intesivists collaborating and closely communicating with other medical disciplines and subspecialties as warranted by patient clinical condition.
Intensive care unit provides care to various types of patients including those presenting with advanced metabolic diseases, infectious diseases with septic shock, strokes and other cerebrovascular events, hemodynamic instability and respiratory failure of any etiology and postoperative patients who need post-op ICU care.

The adult ICU department takes pride at its very low rate of healthcare associated infections. Continuous surveillance using CDC guidelines is done and results in DSFH ICU have consistently shown over the past year a rate that is better than the CDC (NHSN) benchmark.
